I’m in love with this article I read on the Express Tribune website today. This is a very good piece written by Atika Rehman and talks about the ‘jahil’ act of wife beating that prevails in this country

Sadly, men who beat their wives justify their actions by saying “it’s in Islam” but actually it really is not! What really gets to me is the fact that educated people do it to their wives too and it makes them no different from someone illiterate who has had no education at all.

Islam does NOT allowing beating a woman so brutally. Islam tells you to respect your women and to protect them! Our Holy Prophet (PBUHS)’s life is a prime example for us, right? So do we read about him beating up any of his wives? No, right? So how can men who beat their wives justify their barbaric act of physically abusing their wives by saying that ‘it’s what religion teaches us’?

“He is the most perfect Muslim whose disposition is best; and the best of you are they who behave best to their wives”

“ Give your wife good counsel; and if she has goodness in her, she will soon take it, and leave off idle talking; and do not beat your noble wife like a slave”

– Holy Prophet (PBUH)

I’m using saying by the Prophet (PBUH) because his life is what Qur’an teaches us so if ‘Muslims’ really are to justify the beating up they should read some of his sayings first. After all we are to follow the Sunnah and Hadith, right?

There are many women who are victims of physical abuse in this country. It’s unfortunate but I think people need to be made aware of what Islam really says about women and what the status of women actually is according to the sayings of the Holy Prophet and Qur’an.

Ignorance

Police officials raided a wedding ceremony of a six year old girl in Sheikhupura, a place that is a victim of ignorance.
The girl was getting married to a 23 year old man named Zahid. He was arrested with his father and so were the wedding guests. I’m just glad our police are alive in stopping these things and severely punishing people who commit these acts of absolute illiteracy!
I don’t understand how the Nikah Khwan Molvi Ghaus was okay with the marriage. If he really was a Molvi, he should have known that Islam doesn’t want 6 year old girls getting married. The criterion for getting married is being an adult that’s when you become ‘baligh’.
What saddens me is the fact that such acts are still being carried out in our country. We are in the 21^st century and if such things still take place in Pakistan everyone can see a huge sign that says “IT’S THE ILLITERACY RATE IN THE COUNTRY THAT IS TO BLAME!” Why doesn’t the government do anything about educating our people properly? Yes we do have government schools but those are not enough! Also, many people don’t even send their children to these schools. The government needs to educate these people so that we don’t see any more victims of ignorance in this country.
Human rights should be safeguarded. This should be the top priority of the government! The girl is clearly a victim of child abuse and God forbid if police had not raided this wedding, I can’t even imagine what would have happened to the girl. The police said this about the poor girl:
“Uzma didn’t really have much idea of what was happening here and said that her parents had told her she would get many gifts. She didn’t know she was getting married” Such is the height of illiteracy and ignorance in the country!

Zulqarnain HAHAahaider

It’s actually funny how Zulqarnain Haider is trying SO hard to be on the news channels but everytime he does something, it ends up as a joke for the entire world.
I can actually give a million reasons as to why this person shouldn’t be given so much coverage and should not be taken seriously at all. It’s not just me, his acts scream ‘hilarious’! Zulqarnain hasn’t been a part of the national team and he did not prove to be the best wicketkeeper so it’s not like he had any chances of staying in the team for long.

It’s weird but funny how every single time he updates his facebook status, he gets news coverage from not only Pakistan but India and England and a few other countries as well. I know and I’m pretty sure that he’s getting all the coverage from India and other countries as he is expected to bring Pakistan cricket down. The English media is greedy for these kind of stories and according to a post on Zulqarnain’s facebook page, “news of the world offerd me 50,000 pounds i refused and gave interview for free and said to them to give the money to charity” funny, right?

Pakistani media on the other hand would OBVIOUSLY blame the Pakistan Cricket Board for everything even the latest air crash in Karachi I think.

He claims that he had received death threats to influence the results of the matches. He is no Abdur Razzaq or Umar Gul that he can actually influence the results. Also, he has no proof to really show how the threats were made. What I also don’t understand is why did he have to fly to England? He could have talked to the ICC units in Dubai and the Anti Corruption Unit would have given him all the attention he wanted.

Zulqarnain announced his retirement from international cricket when he reached London. He asks the government to ‘provide protection’ for his family while he is seeking ‘asylum’ in Britain.

He conveys his messages through facebook and now claims to name 5 players who he knows are involved in match fixing. Riiight. He knows. He could have done better in cricket but making these hilarious claims would honestly not land him anywhere. What he really needs now is to be in a mental asylum. He is a bad story teller and is only making a complete fool out of himself.

I absolutely love this article written by the US Pilot John Bockmann. I don’t get why people have to comment and be like “first stop the drone attacks and then talk about our country like that” or “why don’t you go and tell people from the news in American about it instead of posting it here?”. This is what makes me cringe! Why can’t our people act civilized for once? This AMERICAN guy wrote about some really good things about our country (which we don’t see that often) and wanted to see our comments about it. He’s definitely going to go to his homeland and talk good about the country as well. Also, stopping the drone attacks is not in his hands. It’s in the hands of the American government!

I really really respect Naeem and Ishaq, the Pakistanis who were welcoming and actually helped in portraying a positive image of our country to people like him. It’s surprising how everyone thinks that Pakistanis living in Swat are extremists and aren’t welcoming of non-Muslims but they really did amaze the country with the kind of hospitality they gave the pilot.

I don’t respect the American government but I think people like John Bockmann who are here for a good cause must be respected and welcomed by us because it’s only going to result in portraying a positive image of our country. So if soldiers like Bockmann would go back to their homes talking about how he was welcomed in the valley of Swat then people would actually understand that Pakistan is not only about bombs and terrorists.

Better late than never

“Ronaldo Zidane to play for the Flood Victims of Pakistan”

The above mentioned headline made me very happy! World-class football players Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo have announced that their 8^th Annual Match for Poverty will raise funds for the flood victims in Pakistan and victims of the Haiti Earthquake. The two also happen to be Goodwill Ambassadors for the UN. The match will take place on 15^th December against the Greek Olympiacos. I can’t wait to watch it! Finally celebrities realize the kind of help Pakistan could use!

These two have been promoting charity work for the poor for the UN Development Program and it makes me so happy to see their concern for Pakistan. I’m saying that because we hardly saw any celebrities from the west using their celebrity status to raise money for Pakistanis while all of them did so when there was an earthquake in Haiti. Things like these promote the ideas of equality and humanity.

“With five years left to accomplish the set of eight goals,” said Zidane, “I hope this 8th Annual Match Against Poverty will help communicate a sense of urgency that we all need to join the team to end poverty now.” Zidane has always been my hero and I’m glad he is using his status to help a good cause like eradicating poverty.

The amount raised in the match will be divided and the Ronaldo Zidane share will be given to Haiti and Pakistan and the Olympiacos will donate their share to the parents of children with special needs and to the homeless in Piraeus.

I absolutely love it when celebrities use their status to actually do something for the society. People like Zindane, Ronaldo, Bono, Angelina Jolie etc work for the people from the world by using the UN platform and to be honest, the kind of impact Bono and Angelina Jolie would have is way better in raising funds for the poor than Ban Ki Moon asking people to donate. I mean more than half of the people of the world I’m pretty sure don’t care about what Ban Ki Moon has to say but they would follow their favorite celebrity and would look up to them.

When I read this news today about Ronaldo and Zidane reminding the UN about the flood victims in Pakistan I was really happy to see these two are spreading awareness about helping Pakistan this would definitely have a huge impact as more people will now know that Pakistan could really use some help on international platforms. Zidane and Ronaldo have raised awareness for those who are ‘often too quickly forgotten’. I feel that they did take some time to realize that Pakistan is in need of help but oh well, it’s better late than never.
